Gallery 3: Claymation and Hyperscore

Claymation

This activity uses clay to produce animated films. Working together at all stages of the production process, from writing the plot to creating the props and characters for the film from clay, as well as building backgrounds and sets, students are deeply involved in the creative process. Students also learn technical skills including filming frame-by-frame photo stills using digital cameras, loading these stills onto the computer and finally editing the entire animation using software such as Windows Movie Maker, adding titles, voice-overs, sounds and even music composed using the Hyperscore Software!

Hyperscore

Hyperscore is a software tool with a graphical composition environment that interprets the gestures of the strokes and lines the user draws in an intuitive way. The user can pen musical ideas, store them for later use, and create new pieces – all in one expansive canvas. The strokes in the drawing are mapped to structural elements in the music, allowing the user to interweave and shape musical voices and define harmonic progressions visually.

So, as you will see, storylines in the students’ clay animations are not only very well thought out; some of their animations even feature their programmed robots whilst the soundtrack is composed entirely using the Hyperscore software. Once again, these are perfect examples of how engineering, art and design can come together to form such magnificent masterpieces, with its construction process dependent on cooperative efforts of all in the team!
