About LEAD          中文版:繁體  簡體

LEAD (Learning through Engineering, Art and Design) is a collaborative educational project, launched in February 2005 in Hong Kong by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Laboratory and The Chinese University of Hong Kong.  The project is supported by Innovation and Technology Commission of The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

LEAD is about design-based creative learning of youth with technology, embedded in a learner-centered approach and in a playful context.

The uniqueness of LEAD in Hong Kong, is that it introduces technologies developed by the MIT Media Laboratory, including Crickets (which are small programmable computers) and Scratch (which is programmable software for multi-media projects).  Young people are encouraged to use these technologies to express themselves in ways to show off their own inventiveness and ingenuity.

Creative Education for Youth

At the heart of LEAD is the mission to nurture and sustain inquisitiveness, innovation and inventiveness in young people.

By learning about design, participants explore different ways of putting their ideas into action.  They learn, through experimentation, different ways of solving problems, and how to integrate technology into art.

As each of these projects need to be done in teams, LEAD also inspires young people to work together, learning not only how to communicate, but also how to share ideas and, facilitate each other.

LEAD in Action

As a long-term pledge to creative and innovative education, LEAD will continue to work with schools and communities in the territory.

LEAD will mainly work with students from primary four to secondary two.

LEAD nurtures school teachers to be workshop leaders, providing them with greater opportunities to facilitate students in their own schools.

All of the 21 Youth S.P.O.Ts of The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups will also organize LEAD activities for young people in the local community.
